Jewelry Photo Editing - Work Faster
Editing, resizing and retouching images for use on the web can be enormously time consuming. I've recently rediscovered a trick in Photoshop that has made performing repetitive editing tasks quicker. I'll outline how to make several steps, one step. Basically, you'll be able to click just once, where as before it took several clicks. My system for preparing photos of my jewelry for Etsy goes something like this:
1. take photos
2. import into iPhoto
3. delete all unusable images
4. pare down choices to 5 images per piece of jewelry
5. open all 5 images in Photoshop
6. retouch mostly with the Levels tool
7. Save your work
8. prepare images for web, here's the trick...
• open the Actions window
• click on New Set
• then click on New Action, hit Record (you are now recording)
- reduce one image to 72dpi (low res for web use)
- reduce that same image's pixel size to around 600 wide
(the goal is to reduce the file size below 2.5 megs)
- go back to your Actions window and hit Stop
- you now have a set of "actions" that are repeatable by simply hitting Play.
The actions I have recorded work for me, yours may need to be altered based on the original size of your images. I encourage you to find any actions that can be repeated for your image editing process and record them. I hope this post helps you speed up your process and gets you back into the studio making art.
Photoshop may not be the only program that can perform this type of function. Do you know of any others?
