Shadow Box Necklaces

Two sided pendants with a place for mementos. I've made a few of these and this one is for a very dear friend who wanted a piece to commemorate her parents wedding. I placed a pearl and some wire from her mother's veil and a tiny piece of lace from her wedding dress inside before sealing behind glass. The other side of the pendant has been etched with my own hand-drawn design. This way you can wear it either side up.

I have fond memories of peeking into the antique shadow boxes hanging on my relatives walls, full of tiny mementos and keepsakes of vacations, weddings, awards won and sometimes love lost. Like miniature rooms filled with a family's history, I wanted a piece of jewelry that could capture in a similar way the significant pieces of our lives.

I've made some necklaces using tiny beads and twine, a lock of hair and even a rock from Costa Rica. They are completely customizable, even what they are strung on. I plan on exploring more concepts for jewelry that allows it's wearer to be reminded of things near and dear to their heart.
