Rivets or Cold Connections
Learning how to use and make rivets from scratch is the 5th class in the Beginning Jewelry Making and Metalsmithing Class Series I'm teaching through FSGNE (Florida Society of Goldsmiths, Northeast Chapter).
The rivet is deceptively simple. Adding just a touch of dimension, they can also become an integral part of the fabrication process and the core of how to join metal to metal without the use of a torch. Rivets are also referred to as cold connections. Learn all of the steps necessary to create successful rivets each time, and some helpful tips to make the process easier. The photo shown illustrates the use of 6 tube rivets used to make Mandalas (hand-sawn pattern).
